Fatal Wichita, Kansas shooting death of Deaundre Hill – Obituary
Deaundre Hill, 27, was identified by the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office as the man who was shot and killed by Wichita police officers during an early morning incident this week.
Sheriff Jeff Easter announced Hill’s identity during a Wednesday afternoon news briefing, where he also released body-worn camera footage and outlined a preliminary sequence of events. The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is overseeing the investigation into the shooting.
According to Easter, Wichita police were dispatched just before 1 a.m. on January 20 to the Brickstone at Woodlawn apartment complex after a 911 caller reported a disturbance. The caller told dispatchers they could hear a man shouting and a woman crying.
Three officers arrived at the northeast Wichita apartment complex but were initially unsure which unit was involved. Sheriff Easter said officers first knocked on the door of an upstairs apartment. While doing so, they heard sounds suggesting a disturbance coming from a downstairs unit within the same building.
The encounter that followed ultimately led to Hill being shot by police. Further details surrounding the confrontation and the circumstances that resulted in the use of force have not yet been fully released as the investigation remains ongoing.
