Authorities have identified the man who died following a house fire in Miamisburg as Gary S. Johnson, 78.

Firefighters from the Miami Valley Fire District responded around 8:46 a.m. Tuesday to reports of a fire in the 700 block of Buckeye Street. Crews observed heavy smoke on arrival and discovered Johnson trapped inside. He was rescued and transported to Kettering Health Miamisburg, where he later died from his injuries.

Fire officials said Johnson required CPR during the rescue and had a pulse while being transported. The home was reported to have hoarder conditions and sustained significant damage, though it remains standing. No other injuries were reported.

The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office and Miami Valley Fire District are investigating the cause of the fire.
