Fatal Dover, Ohio house fire death of Gregory Beitzel – Obituary

Authorities have identified the man who died following a house fire on South Johnson Avenue in Dover as Gregory Beitzel, 73.

The Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office ruled Beitzel’s death accidental, citing smoke inhalation as the cause. Fire crews were dispatched around 12:40 p.m. last Friday after reports of smoke in the area. Upon arrival, a bystander alerted firefighters that someone might still be inside the home.

Beitzel was transported to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Dover Fire Department, local police, and the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the fire and determined that it was not suspicious in nature.

Beitzel is survived by two children and five grandchildren. According to Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, there will be no calling hours or services held.
