Fatal Willowbrook, Los Angeles County shooting death of Kevin Johnson – Obituary

Kevin Johnson, a 55-year-old man, was identified by county officials as the victim found dead at a homeless encampment in the unincorporated Willowbrook area near South Los Angeles, authorities confirmed Thursday.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office released Johnson’s name one day after his death was reported. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to the 1300 block of East 120th Street, close to Central Avenue, where Johnson was discovered deceased at the encampment.

Investigators said little information was immediately available regarding Johnson’s background or the circumstances surrounding his death. Officials have not yet disclosed how he was killed, and the Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau has taken over the investigation.

Authorities noted that the scene is located roughly one mile from where federal immigration agents made an unrelated arrest earlier the same morning, though law enforcement stated there is no confirmed link between the two incidents.
