Fatal Star Valley murder-suicide death of Christopher and Cassandra Moon – Obituary
Idaho law officers have confirmed the identities of the victims involved in a tragic murder-suicide just west of the Wyoming border in Star Valley. The incident claimed the lives of Christopher Moon, 43, and his wife, Cassandra Moon, 23.
The sequence of events began when Christopher Moon called 911 at 8:06 a.m. on January 21, stating that he had just shot his wife. He also indicated that he intended to take his own life. Upon arriving at the scene, officers attempted to communicate with Christopher by phone, but moments later, he was seen using a firearm to end his life.
Law enforcement from Bonneville County, Idaho, and Lincoln County, Wyoming, including a SWAT team, quickly responded to the call. They found two vehicles parked on Jack Knife Road, less than a mile from the state line. Officers briefly made contact with Christopher in an attempt to peacefully resolve the situation, but the tragic outcome occurred shortly thereafter. No other individuals were involved in the incident.
The scene remained under investigation for much of the day, with authorities closing the surrounding area. Witnesses described numerous police vehicles arriving at the location, and nearby Thayne Elementary School implemented a security procedure as a precaution. The investigation continues, and no further details have been released at this time.
