Authorities in northwest Indiana are investigating a tragic crash that claimed the life of a young child in Hammond last week. The Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Kay’Lee Hawkins, a 7-year-old girl from Hammond, died after being struck by a vehicle.
Officials said the coroner’s office was called to Munster Community Hospital shortly before 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, where Kay’Lee was pronounced dead. The collision occurred in the 5900 block of Wallace Road, though specific details about how the crash unfolded have not yet been released.
An autopsy conducted on Thursday revealed that Kay’Lee suffered multiple blunt force injuries, which were determined to be the cause of her death.
