Greg Ackmann, 73, of Beenleigh, Queensland, was killed when a single-engine light aircraft he was piloting crashed shortly after takeoff at Heck Field in Woongoolba, south of Brisbane, early Sunday morning. Ackmann, an experienced pilot who had flown since his teenage years, was traveling with a friend from Sydney at the time of the accident.

Emergency services were dispatched to the airfield near Gross Road around 5:57 a.m., but both men on board suffered fatal injuries. Authorities confirmed the deaths and reported that two people sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident, as officials continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
