Authorities have confirmed the identity of a truck driver who lost his life in a deadly early-morning crash involving an 18-wheeler along Highway 150. The victim was identified as 46-year-old Ashley William Jones of Bessemer, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to officials, the crash occurred around 3:20 a.m. Wednesday in the 1500 block of Highway 150. Investigators believe Jones was driving an 18-wheeler when the vehicle struck a patch of ice on the roadway, causing the truck to lose control.

The tractor-trailer reportedly left the roadway, traveled into a wooded area, and then caught fire. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Jones was pronounced dead at approximately 3:32 a.m., as confirmed by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

Bessemer police are handling the investigation and continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details have been released at this time.
