Fatal Bartlett, Illinois train crash death of David M. Hoday – Obituary

Authorities have identified a public works employee who died after being struck by a Metra train while clearing snow in Bartlett earlier this week.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the victim as 64-year-old David M. Hoday of Woodridge. Police said Hoday was a Bartlett Public Works worker who was injured Monday morning and later died at a nearby hospital.

The incident happened around 8:35 a.m. at the intersection of Oak Avenue and Railroad Avenue, when an Elgin-bound Metra District West train collided with a small snowplow vehicle. Metra officials said the vehicle was being operated by a village employee at the time of the crash.

No passengers on the train were injured, but rail service in the area was temporarily disrupted following the collision. The Metra Police Department is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also responded to the scene, and federal transportation officials have joined the inquiry. Investigators are examining whether Hoday began crossing the tracks and may not have seen the approaching train.

The incident left nearby commuters and residents shaken as authorities continue to review what led to the deadly crash.
