Phillip Michael Villafana dies in fatal Santa Ana, California vehicle accident

Fatal Santa Ana, California vehicle accident death of Phillip Michael Villafana – Obituary

Authorities have identified the man who died after being struck by a vehicle at a Santa Ana car wash as 27-year-old Phillip Michael Villafana. Villafana, believed to be transient and last known to reside in Long Beach, was found trapped under a car in the driveway of the Orange Coin Car Wash at 117 N. Euclid Street on Tuesday afternoon.

Santa Ana police said officers responded just before 2:30 p.m., and firefighters with the Orange County Fire Authority helped free Villafana from beneath the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The circumstances leading to Villafana lying in the driveway remain unclear. The driver, 45-year-old Ricardo Sotello Ortiz, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence; however, investigators indicated that impairment was not believed to be the cause of the accident.
