Authorities have identified the young man who was killed in a shooting Wednesday evening in Canton as 20-year-old Ta Shaun M. Smith of Massillon. Smith later died from his injuries after being transported to the hospital.

 

According to police, officers were dispatched around 5:25 p.m. on January 28 after multiple 911 callers reported gunfire in the 600 block of Alan Page Drive SE. When officers arrived at the Skyline Terrace Apartments, they found Smith outside suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso.

 

Paramedics with the Canton Fire Department rushed Smith to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

 

Canton Police Chief John Gabbard said four suspects were found inside a nearby building and taken into custody shortly after the shooting. Police identified the suspects as 18-year-old Niko Marshall of Canton, 33-year-old Nathaniel Sanford of Sherrodsville, 19-year-old De Iveon J. Newman of Massillon, and 20-year-old Kymani James of Massillon.

 

Marshall is facing charges including murder, felonious assault, having weapons under disability, and a probation violation. Sanford has been charged with murder and tampering with evidence. Newman is charged with receiving stolen property, while James faces a charge of tampering with evidence.

 

The investigation remains ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information related to the case to contact the Canton Police Detective Bureau or submit tips anonymously through Tip411 or Stark County Crime Stoppers.
