Fatal Pierce County, Washington car crash death of Ty Addison Curtis – Obituary

A Puyallup man was killed in a bicycle crash late January 22 near the community of McKenna in southern Pierce County, according to authorities.

Ty Addison Curtis, 55, was riding his bicycle just east of the Nisqually River when he was struck by a vehicle along State Route 702. The Washington State Patrol said the collision happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. near the junction of SR 702 and SR 507.

Investigators reported that Curtis was traveling east while riding on the westbound side of the highway when he was hit by a Hyundai Sonata driven by a 45-year-old man from Anchorage, Alaska. The impact threw Curtis into the eastbound lane.

Curtis was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver stayed at the location and cooperated with authorities. No charges have been filed at this time, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The roadway, also known as McKenna Tanwax Road or 352nd Street South, is a narrow two-lane highway with no sidewalks and uneven shoulders, conditions that investigators noted as part of the ongoing review.
