Fatal Deerfield Beach, Florida car crash death of Weekenley Felix and Ashly Rosier – Obituary
Authorities in Broward County released additional details after a burglary investigation ended in a deadly crash that sent a vehicle into a lake in Deerfield Beach, killing two people and resulting in an arrest.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as 22-year-old Weekenley Felix and 20-year-old Ashly Rosier. A third suspect, 21-year-old Pledidson Philibert, survived and was taken into custody. Philibert now faces five counts of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and three counts of conspiracy to commit burglary of an unoccupied conveyance.
Deputies said the incident began shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday, when reports came in about a burglary in the 700 block of Deer Creek Emerald Way West. Surveillance footage from the area showed one of the suspects walking near parked vehicles before deputies arrived.
When law enforcement responded, the suspected vehicle fled the neighborhood and later crashed into a lake near Lakeside Way and Lakeside Drive. Investigators said the driver ran from the area before the SUV entered the water.
One suspect was able to escape from the submerged vehicle and was arrested at the scene. A deputy entered the lake in an attempt to rescue another occupant who remained trapped inside the SUV but was unable to reach them.
Video from the scene showed deputies and divers searching the water behind nearby homes. One body was recovered and pronounced dead at the scene as the white SUV was pulled from the lake. A second body was later removed from the water.
Surveillance video taken after the crash showed Philibert attempting to hide underneath a parked car before surrendering to deputies. During his court appearance on Wednesday, a judge set his bond at $24,000.
