Michael Mayer dies in fatal Olive Branch train collision
Fatal Olive Branch train collision death of Michael Mayer – Obituary
Michael Mayer, 54, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, was struck and killed by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train on January 29, 2026. The incident occurred near Highway 178 and Old Goodman Road at approximately 9:28 a.m. When officers arrived, they confirmed that Mayer had been struck by the train after being flagged down by the conductor.
Emergency medical personnel attempted to treat Mayer at the scene, but he succumbed to his injuries. DeSoto County Coroner Josh Pounders pronounced him dead shortly thereafter. The cause of the incident remains under investigation by BNSF Railroad Police.
