Fatal Winston-Salem, North Carolina shooting death of Derek Devol Brandon II – Obituary

A fatal shooting on Quantum Court in Winston-Salem claimed the life of Derek Devol Brandon II after he was wounded during a confrontation, according to authorities.

The Winston-Salem Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, following reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found Brandon suffering from gunshot injuries. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

Investigators said the suspect, Je’Juan Khyre Watson, was located close to the scene and taken into custody shortly afterward. Authorities believe the shooting happened after a physical dispute between the two men escalated.

Watson has been charged with felony murder. Following his court appearance, he was denied bond and is being held at the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center.

Detectives stated that the incident was determined to be an isolated case and not a random act. The investigation remains ongoing.
