Fatal Brooklyn garbage chute accident death of Michelle Montgomery – Obituary
Michelle Montgomery, a 39-year-old woman, died after authorities determined she accidentally fell down a garbage chute inside a Brooklyn public housing building. Her body was discovered on February 1 in the basement trash area of Borinquen Public Houses located on Bushwick Avenue in Williamsburg.
Workers at the building became alarmed when they noticed a trash bag that seemed unusually heavy. After opening it, they found Montgomery’s remains and immediately notified police. The disturbing discovery initially raised fears that she had been murdered.
Investigators later learned Montgomery had been out drinking the night before. Surveillance footage showed her entering the building alone around 1:39 a.m., despite not living there or having any known ties to the property. Residents also reported hearing screams coming from the garbage chute area during that time.
An autopsy revealed that Montgomery suffered severe injuries, including deep cuts, puncture wounds, and numerous broken bones. However, medical examiners concluded these injuries were caused by the garbage compactor machinery, not an assault. Officials confirmed she was still alive when she entered the chute and found no signs that she tried to defend herself.
Following the medical findings, detectives determined her death was accidental rather than criminal, bringing a tragic conclusion to the investigation.
