Fatal Northeast Washington, D.C. shooting death of Julian Marquette Bailey – Obituary

Julian Marquette Bailey, 43, of Northeast Washington, D.C., was killed Wednesday afternoon after being shot by a U.S. marshal in the city’s Northeast quadrant. Authorities confirmed Bailey’s identity following the officer-involved shooting, which occurred after police responded to a report involving an armed threat.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called around 2:10 p.m. regarding a man who allegedly threatened a woman with a gun near Kenilworth Terrace and Hayes Street NE. The woman told police she had been involved in a heated argument with a man inside a convenience store and said he followed her outside, made a threatening statement, and displayed a firearm before she drove away.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Service and U.S. Park Police later located the suspect a few blocks away in the 3700 block of Hayes Street NE, where Bailey was found inside a vehicle. During that encounter, a U.S. marshal fired shots, striking Bailey. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Metropolitan Police stated that no MPD officers were present at the moment of the shooting. The incident happened in front of Cesar Chavez Middle Public Charter School, which was placed on lockdown as a precaution. An MPD internal team that investigates all law enforcement-involved shootings in the District is now handling the case.
