Fatal Chatham County, Georgia car crash death of Linda Davis – Obituary

A tragic collision in Chatham County on Monday morning claimed the life of a local educator after a fleeing suspect crashed into her vehicle during a federal operation.

According to the Chatham County Police Department, officers were called to the scene around 7:45 a.m. near Truman Parkway and Whitefield Avenue, just outside a police precinct. The crash involved Linda Davis, a teacher at Hesse K-8 School, who suffered fatal injuries.

Investigators said the incident began when agents with the Department of Homeland Security attempted to stop a man identified as Oscar Vasquez Lopez in the Truman Parkway area. Authorities reported that Lopez refused to stop, prompting a pursuit by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

During the chase, Lopez’s vehicle collided with Davis. She was transported to a hospital following the impact, where she later died from her injuries.

Lopez survived the crash and was taken for medical treatment. Officials said his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Police arrested Lopez following the incident. He now faces multiple charges, including first-degree homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, driving without a valid license, and failure to obey a traffic control device.

Federal officials stated that Lopez is originally from Guatemala and had previously been ordered removed from the United States by a judge in 2024. Local records indicate he had no prior criminal history in Chatham County.

The investigation into the deadly crash remains ongoing.
