Tawnia McGeehan and daughter Addi Smith die in Las Vegas murder-suicide shooting

Fatal Las Vegas, Nevada shooting death of Addi Smith and Tawnia McGeehan – Obituary

A tragic incident inside a Las Vegas hotel room has left a young girl and her mother dead following a suspected murder-suicide, according to authorities.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said officers were asked to conduct a welfare check on February 15 after concerns were raised when Addi Smith and her mother, Tawnia McGeehan, failed to attend a scheduled cheerleading competition.

Police and hotel staff initially attempted to make contact with the pair at their room inside the Rio Hotel & Casino on West Flamingo Road but received no response and found no immediate signs of danger at the time.

Later that afternoon, hotel security returned to the room following additional concerns. When they entered at approximately 2:27 p.m., both Addi and her mother were discovered unresponsive. Emergency services were called, and both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined through early evidence that McGeehan fatally shot her daughter before taking her own life. Authorities also confirmed that a note was recovered, though officials have not yet disclosed a motive as the investigation continues.

Addi’s cheerleading team shared their grief publicly, remembering her as a deeply loved member whose loss has devastated teammates, coaches, and loved ones.

Family members have since created a fundraiser to assist with funeral costs, describing the loss as shocking and heartbreaking for everyone affected.

Police continue to ask anyone with information about the case to come forward as detectives work to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
