Four people lost their lives in a high-speed car chase that ended in a deadly crash in Madera County, California, on Sunday. Authorities have identified the victims as 25-year-old driver Juan Perez Quezada and his passengers, 15-year-old David Daza Perez, 15-year-old Benito Mendoza, and 13-year-old Stephen Rodriguez.

 

The incident occurred on the northbound Highway 99 on-ramp near Avenue 17 after a pursuit involving Madera County Sheriff’s Deputies. Officials reported that some occupants of the vehicle were not wearing seatbelts, though specific details were not disclosed.

 

According to deputies, the chase began shortly after 1 a.m. when calls were received reporting vehicle break-ins near El Vado Drive and Avenue 18 1/2. When officers arrived, the suspected vehicle fled, leading to a pursuit that ended when the driver lost control and crashed.

 

An 18-year-old passenger survived but was critically injured and airlifted to a nearby hospital. Authorities continue to investigate both the crash and the related vehicle break-ins.
