Fatal Columbus, Ohio car crash death of Sean Price – Obituary

Authorities have confirmed that Sean Price, 53, lost his life following a wrong-way collision that occurred early Friday morning along Interstate 71 near East Broad Street.

According to investigators, the incident happened shortly after 2 a.m. when a black Chrysler Town & Country was seen traveling south in the northbound lanes. Footage released by the Ohio Department of Transportation showed the minivan moving in the wrong direction before striking a Ford F-150 and a tractor-trailer.

As the situation unfolded, a Ram 1500 slowed down to avoid the wreckage ahead but was hit from behind by another semi-truck traveling northbound. The force of the crash threw Price, who was driving the Ram, from his vehicle and underneath the tractor-trailer. The truck then caught fire. Emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police later located the driver of the Chrysler several hours afterward, west of the interstate and south of where the crash occurred. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of hypothermia. Officials have not announced whether charges will be filed, though reports indicate he left the scene on foot.

Investigators believe the wrong-way driver may have entered the interstate incorrectly from Interstate 670, but the exact circumstances surrounding how the vehicle began traveling in the opposite direction remain under review.
