Fatal Salton City murder death of T’Neya Tovar – Obituary
T’Neya Tovar, a 17-year-old girl from Hemet, has been confirmed dead after her remains were identified months after she was reported missing.
Authorities said a human leg was discovered on December 21 in a vacant lot in Salton City, a small desert community near the Salton Sea. Following forensic analysis, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office announced on February 12 that DNA testing proved the remains belonged to Tovar.
The grim discovery came after her family had publicly identified her as missing and appealed for help in locating her. Her case had also been listed on the missing persons registry maintained by the California Attorney General’s Office.
Investigators moved quickly after confirming her identity. The following day, deputies went to the home of a 51-year-old man who reportedly knew Tovar. Officials said the man attempted to escape by jumping over a fence but was captured and taken into custody on suspicion of murder.
Law enforcement noted that the suspect lives less than a mile from the location where the remains were found. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue working to uncover the full circumstances surrounding Tovar’s death.
