Fatal Red Cloud crash death of Andrew Katzberg – Obituary

Andrew Katzberg, 24, of Kenesaw, was killed Thursday morning when the hay grinder he was driving collided with an empty freight train on Highway 136 near Amboy, roughly four miles east of Red Cloud. The Webster County Attorney’s Office confirmed he died at the scene.

The impact caused ten train cars to derail, according to a Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesperson, though the train crew was unharmed. The Webster County Sheriff’s Office, with support from the Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Department of Transportation, and BNSF personnel, is investigating the incident. The exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

Highway 136 was closed from Red Cloud to Guide Rock following the collision until approximately 3 a.m. Friday and has since reopened to normal traffic.
