The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that James Ricks, 59, of Summerville, was the individual who lost his life after being struck by a vehicle earlier this week.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the fatal incident happened around 6:37 p.m. on February 16 along Jedburg Road.

Authorities determined during their investigation that Ricks had been standing on the roadway when a westbound vehicle hit him.

Officials said the circumstances surrounding the collision are still being examined, with both the Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office continuing their investigation into the deadly event.
