Fatal Jackson County, Miss. car crash death of Michael Valera and William Rodman – Obituary

Officials have confirmed that Michael Valera, 32, and William Rodman, 34, lost their lives after a violent crash along Interstate 10 in Jackson County.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the incident happened when a Ford prisoner transport van from St. Joseph Detention Center was heading westbound on Interstate 10. Valera was driving the vehicle, which also carried fellow employee Javier Arroyo, along with inmates Rodman and Raymond Boertmann.

Authorities said the transport van collided with a utility truck operated by Jerry Jenkins, 54, of Gautier. After the impact, the van veered off the roadway, overturned, and then became engulfed in flames.

Valera and Rodman suffered fatal injuries and were declared dead at the scene.

Arroyo and Boertmann sustained critical injuries and were flown to a hospital outside the state for emergency care. Jenkins was seriously hurt and taken from the scene by ambulance for treatment.

The Highway Patrol stated that the investigation into the deadly crash remains ongoing.
