Authorities in Mobile have confirmed that Brittany Williams, 31, and her young daughter lost their lives after their vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train early Saturday morning.
Emergency crews, including Mobile police and firefighters, were called to the railroad crossing near Cary Hamilton Road in Theodore shortly before 7 a.m. When they arrived, they discovered the car heavily damaged after being hit by a train traveling toward Mobile. Williams and her 8-year-old child were pronounced dead at the scene. No passengers or crew members on the train were reported injured.
Officials investigating the incident stated that the railroad crossing’s safety features, including its warning lights, signals, and crossing arms, were all operating correctly when the collision happened.
According to Mobile Police Department spokesperson Blake Brown, witnesses reported seeing Williams drive onto the tracks even though the warning signals were active.
The area remained closed for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the wreckage.
