Fatal Toledo, Ohio car crash death of Jessie Moats – Obituary
Authorities in Toledo, Ohio, reported that Jessie Moats, 38, died after being struck by a commercial vehicle following a violent carjacking incident that left an elderly man critically hurt.
According to police, the sequence of events began Thursday afternoon when Donald Russell was taking his granddaughter, Anniyah Fell, and her boyfriend to a bus stop. After they said goodbye, Fell returned to find her grandfather gone, with his personal belongings, including his shoes, glasses, and phone, left behind on the ground.
Investigators said Moats attacked Russell and forcibly stole his vehicle. During the theft, Russell was dragged by the car for nearly half a mile, leaving him with severe injuries. A bus driver who witnessed the attack alerted authorities.
Russell was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition. His family said he suffered extensive injuries, including kidney failure, and is currently in a coma while receiving treatment.
Police said Moats later crashed the stolen vehicle on Interstate 75. After the crash, he fled on foot, crossed over a concrete barrier, and was struck by a passing commercial vehicle. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
