Fatal Long Beach Airport underpass crash death of Amber Delgado – Obituary
A tragic single-vehicle accident early Saturday morning claimed the lives of four people, including siblings Amber Delgado and Brian Delgado, in Long Beach.
The crash occurred around 1:20 a.m. on Lakewood Boulevard at the underpass near Long Beach Airport. According to police, the 2008 Honda Accord the victims were traveling in struck the center median curb, lost control, collided with the underpass support wall, and erupted in flames.
Firefighters discovered Amber Delgado, 22, outside the vehicle. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed she died from blunt force trauma.
Three other passengers—Isabel Acevedo, 22; Caleb Gainer, 22; and Brian Delgado, 28—were found inside the burned vehicle and also died from blunt force trauma. Brian Delgado additionally suffered burns and smoke inhalation. A family fundraiser noted that Brian and Amber Delgado were brother and sister.
Amber Delgado had been completing her nursing clinicals, nearing the culmination of her dream to become a registered nurse. Brian Delgado worked as a manager at AutoZone and was known for his dedication to his family and community.
Police are investigating whether speed or impairment contributed to the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board will also review the accident to determine if broader safety issues were involved, with a preliminary report expected within 30 days.
