Fatal Bloomington head-on crash death of Theadora “Teddy” Wellman – Obituary
Theadora “Teddy” Wellman, 74, of Bloomington, has been identified as the woman who lost her life in a collision that occurred on February 25.
According to the Monroe County coroner, Wellman was driving her Kia south on Rockport Road around 6:15 p.m. when a vehicle traveling north crossed the center line. The two vehicles collided head-on near the intersection of Rockport Road and Stansifer Court.
Wellman was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the 48-year-old Bloomington man behind the wheel of the other vehicle, along with a 7-year-old child riding with him, suffered injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment. A third driver, a 58-year-old Bloomington man whose vehicle was also involved, sustained minor injuries.
The crash led to the roadway being shut down for several hours as investigators worked the scene. Members of the Monroe County Major Crash Investigation Team conducted a reconstruction of the incident, and the case remains under review.
Coroner Jeff Hall stated that an autopsy would be conducted to determine the official cause and manner of Wellman’s death. In her obituary, Wellman was remembered for her determination and spirited personality. She had been married for 55 years and enjoyed hobbies such as scrapbooking, creating handmade cards, playing euchre and bingo, and watching classic western films.
