Fatal Southampton, New York delivery van crash death of Anasser Almontaser – Obituary

Authorities have identified the driver killed in a multiple-vehicle crash on County Road 39 in Shinnecock Hills as 33-year-old Anasser Almontaser of Staten Island.

The accident occurred Wednesday afternoon as Almontaser was driving a 2014 GMC commercial van eastbound into Southampton. Police reported that his vehicle strayed from the lane, sideswiping three westbound vehicles before striking a fourth vehicle head-on.

Almontaser was extricated from his van by the Southampton Fire Department’s heavy rescue unit and pronounced dead at the scene. Three other drivers involved sustained minor injuries and were treated at Stony Brook Southampton.

The crash caused the road to be closed for nearly four hours during the investigation, which included a detailed reconstruction of the scene. Almontaser’s body has been turned over to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that caused the van to enter oncoming traffic.
