Fatal Laguna Beach, California parking lot crash death of Savannah Van Houtte – Obituary
Authorities have identified the pedestrian who died after being struck in a collision involving two work trucks in Laguna Beach. The victim was 25-year-old Savannah Van Houtte of Irvine.
The incident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven store located in the 31702 block of Coast Highway near Third Avenue. A CR&R trash truck and a Belshire Environmental Services work vehicle collided in the lot under circumstances that remain under investigation.
Van Houtte was walking in the area when she was hit and sustained severe injuries. She was transported by emergency personnel to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Both vehicles were actively servicing the store at the time of the collision. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
Parking lot accidents are a notable safety concern, often underreported despite accounting for a significant share of injuries and fatalities nationwide. Experts note that low-speed collisions, “back-over†incidents, distracted driving, and reduced pedestrian visibility from larger vehicles all contribute to these dangers.
