Authorities say four members of a family were killed after a vehicle crashed and caught fire early Sunday morning near Oakdale in Stanislaus County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened shortly after 3:05 a.m. along Oakdale-Waterford Highway near Claribel Road. Officers responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision and arrived to find a 2014 Dodge SUV fully engulfed in flames.

Investigators said the SUV was traveling northbound when the driver lost control, veered off the roadway, and slammed into a concrete barrier. The impact caused the vehicle to ignite.

Four occupants inside the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene. Family members later identified the victims as Adrian Solorio, Brenda Cisneros, their 5-year-old child, and an infant.

Two other children, a 12-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, managed to escape from the burning vehicle before emergency crews arrived. Both suffered major injuries and were flown by helicopter to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.

Relatives said Solorio and Cisneros had been leaving a family gathering in Merced and were only about ten minutes away from their home when the crash occurred.

Authorities have not yet determined what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
