Fatal Vineland pedestrian crash death of Frederic Acevedo – Obituary

Authorities say a man has died after being struck by a vehicle at an intersection in Vineland, New Jersey.

The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office identified the victim as 42-year-old Frederic Acevedo of Millville. He was hit by a vehicle shortly before 6 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection of East Sherman Avenue and South Lincoln Avenue.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but the driver involved in the collision had already left the area. Acevedo was transported to Cooper University Hospital for treatment, where he later died from his injuries on Sunday.

Investigators later located a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the crash. Officers conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as a 21-year-old woman from Bridgeton. Authorities said the vehicle had damage that matched evidence found at the scene.

During questioning, the driver told police she saw a pedestrian step into her lane at the intersection and swerved, believing she had avoided hitting him. She also stated that she briefly remained at the scene but left after being unable to locate anyone who had been struck.

Police have issued the driver traffic citations for leaving the scene of an accident involving a death and for failing to report the crash. No criminal charges have been filed at this time as the investigation continues.

Vineland police are asking anyone who may have information about the incident to contact Officer Anthony Capelli.
