Fatal North York collision death of Walter Omar Montes De Oca Munoz – Obituary
Walter Omar Montes De Oca Munoz, 62, of Toronto, was killed in a tragic accident in North York on March 6, 2026. The incident occurred shortly before 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of Steeles Avenue West and Gerry Fitzgerald Drive when a vehicle collision caused a utility pole to topple onto him.
Toronto police reported that a 19-year-old woman was driving a Volkswagen Tiguan eastbound on Steeles Avenue West while Montes De Oca Munoz, driving an Acura MDX westbound, allegedly ran a traffic signal. The vehicles collided as the Volkswagen attempted a left turn, causing the Acura to strike a utility pole. The pole fell and fatally struck the pedestrian.
After the crash, the driver of the Acura fled the scene on foot. Emergency responders pronounced Montes De Oca Munoz dead at the scene.
Authorities later identified the Acura driver as 32-year-old Walter Omar Montes De Oca Munoz of King City. He is wanted for failing to remain at the scene of a fatal accident and for dangerous operation causing death. Police describe him as five-foot-seven with a muscular build and dark brown hair, and they are urging anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
