Authorities have identified the pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle Friday night on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard in Charleston. The victim, 60-year-old Edward W. Brown, passed away at the Medical University of South Carolina just before 1 a.m. Saturday from injuries sustained in the crash.
Charleston Police officers responded around 7:44 p.m. to the intersection of Sam Rittenberg Boulevard and Gamecock Avenue following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian in a wheelchair and a Honda Element. Police said Brown was attempting to cross in an area without a crosswalk or pedestrian signal when the vehicle struck him.
Officials indicated that no charges are expected in connection with the crash.
