Fatal Tucson, Arizona car crash death of Omar Del Ra Soto – Obituary
Authorities in Tucson have identified the man who lost his life in a serious two-vehicle collision early Monday morning. The Tucson Police Department confirmed that 47-year-old Omar Del Ra Soto died following the crash.
The incident happened on March 9 at approximately 4:30 a.m. near the intersection of Broadway Boulevard and Craycroft Road. Officers from the Tucson Police Department’s Operations Division East responded after receiving reports of a crash involving severe injuries.
Emergency personnel from the Tucson Fire Department arrived at the scene and assessed the drivers involved. Soto, who had been driving a Honda Civic, was pronounced dead at the location of the collision. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to a hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Investigators said initial evidence and witness accounts indicate Soto was attempting to make a left turn from northbound Craycroft Road onto westbound Broadway Boulevard while the traffic signal was green for his direction. At the same time, a Kia EV6 traveling east on Broadway Boulevard reportedly failed to stop at a red light at the intersection, leading to the collision.
Police stated that both vehicles were disabled due to the impact. Detectives also believe the Kia was moving faster than the posted 35-mile-per-hour speed limit.
An officer from the department’s Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit evaluated the Kia’s driver and determined that alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the crash.
Investigators say the primary focus of the case is the Kia driver’s speed and failure to stop for the red light. Authorities are continuing to examine the traffic signal timing and other factors that may have contributed to the deadly crash.
