GOLDEN VALLEY, AZ — Johnny Manion Friend, 45, was killed Wednesday morning after a confrontation with Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies at a trailer in Golden Valley, roughly 25 miles east of Laughlin. Authorities reported that Friend opened fire from inside the trailer and set it on fire before officers returned fire, fatally striking him at the scene.
The deputies involved in the incident were identified as Sergeant David Kinion, Detective Devin Godfrey, Detective Jason Zappela, and Deputy Jose Cardenas, all of whom have served multiple years with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. Officials said Friend was armed and refused to comply with commands prior to the shooting.
The Bullhead City Police Department confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Authorities have stated that the situation appears to have been contained to the residence, with no further threats to the public.
