Authorities have identified Obdulia Sanchez as the woman who died following a shooting in Stockton, California, in December 2025. Sanchez, previously known for her 2017 conviction related to a fatal crash involving her younger sister, was critically injured in the incident and later died from her wounds.

The shooting occurred just after 7 p.m. on December 2, 2025, on the 700 block of Gertrude Avenue. Deputies responding to reports of gunfire found Sanchez and a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a hospital, where Sanchez later succumbed to her injuries.

Monica Barajas, 27, was arrested on March 12, 2026, in connection with Sanchez’s death and has been charged with murder and discharging a firearm causing great bodily injury and death. Barajas appeared in court on March 16, where she was represented by a public defender and denied bail. She is scheduled to return to court on April 15 for further proceedings.

Investigators identified Barajas as a suspect after executing search warrants at two locations in Stockton. The case remains under investigation by the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.
