Fatal North Phoenix police shooting death of Aiden Piekarz – Obituary
Aiden Piekarz, 22, was shot and killed by police on March 12 in north Phoenix near 32nd Street and Paradise Lane, between Greenway and Bell roads. Officers responded to multiple calls reporting gunfire shortly after 2 a.m. and encountered Piekarz in the roadway holding a firearm. When he allegedly approached officers and ignored commands, an officer-involved shooting occurred.
Piekarz was transported to a hospital by Phoenix Fire Department personnel but died from his injuries. No officers or bystanders were harmed, and authorities have confirmed there are no additional suspects.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety Major Incident Division is investigating the shooting, while the Phoenix Police Department is conducting an internal review to ensure proper procedures were followed. Officials are also exploring whether Piekarz may have been connected to a nearby shooting the night before that injured three juveniles.
