Authorities have identified 36-year-old Brian Appelbergh of Carmel as the driver who lost his life following a crash in Mount Pleasant. The incident occurred Monday along Route 9A in the Hawthorne area when Appelbergh reportedly attempted to avoid a fallen tree obstructing the roadway.

According to investigators, a 911 call indicated that he lost control of his vehicle during the maneuver and collided with another tree.

Emergency responders transported Appelbergh to Westchester Medical Center for treatment, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
