Authorities in San Antonio have identified 12-year-old Jonathan Rivera as the victim of a deadly street racing crash that occurred Tuesday evening. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed he died from blunt force injuries sustained in the collision.

 

The crash happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. along Culebra Road near North Elmendorf Street on the city’s Northwest Side. According to police, two vehicles—a sedan and a black pickup truck—were reportedly racing when the sedan, driven by a 20-year-old, lost control. The vehicle spun into oncoming traffic and collided with another car.

 

Rivera, who was a passenger in the sedan, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the sedan was taken to a hospital and could face charges related to racing on a highway resulting in death.

 

A 66-year-old woman traveling in the other vehicle involved in the crash was also hospitalized, though officials have not released details about her condition.

 

City leaders have expressed concern following the incident, with District One Councilwoman Sukh Kaur calling for increased awareness and stronger measures to address dangerous driving behaviors, including street racing. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
