A 40-year-old man lost his life after being hit by a semi-truck at a truck stop in Sioux City, according to police.

Joseph Rockwell, a resident of Omaha, Nebraska, was struck on the evening of March 17 at Love’s Truck Stop. Authorities said the incident happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. as a semi-truck was pulling away from the fuel pumps.

Investigators reported that Rockwell was walking through the parking lot when the truck hit him.

Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment, but he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police are continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
