Seattle police have confirmed the identity of a woman killed in a hit-and-run on Interstate 5 near 200th Street on Sunday. The victim, 72-year-old Nadezhda Gorbachenko of Kent, was driving a silver Prius when she was first struck by a blue Mercedes E-class two-door sedan from the 2009–2017 model years.
After the initial collision, Gorbachenko’s car became disabled and she was subsequently struck by another vehicle. She was able to call 911 following the second impact but later died from her injuries. Gorbachenko was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
The second driver, a 26-year-old man from Olympia, remained at the scene and was injured; authorities say he is not facing any charges. Investigators noted that Gorbachenko had been delivering newspapers when the crash occurred.
Washington State Patrol continues to search for the driver of the Mercedes involved in the hit-and-run and urges anyone with information to come forward.
