Fatal Rowan County, Kentucky car crash death of Donavan Kyle Porter – Obituary

A 30-year-old man from Olive Hill lost his life following a fiery crash in Rowan County after fleeing from law enforcement Friday night. Authorities reported that the incident began when a Kentucky State Police trooper attempted to stop a speeding gray 2017 Chevrolet Camaro along Interstate 64 near the 128-mile marker around 8:45 p.m.

According to police, the driver refused to pull over and exited the interstate at Exit 133, continuing onto Kentucky 801. The pursuing trooper eventually lost sight of the vehicle shortly before 8:50 p.m.

Just after 9 p.m., another trooper located the same car and attempted a second traffic stop. The driver again accelerated, prompting another pursuit. A short time later, near the junction of Kentucky 801 and Kentucky 519, the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The Camaro veered off the roadway, struck a utility pole, and burst into flames. Troopers attempted to rescue the driver but were unable to reach him due to the fire.

The victim was identified as Donavan Kyle Porter. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rowan County coroner, and his body was transported to the state medical examiner’s office for further examination.

The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team has launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
