Authorities in Nashville have identified 23-year-old Oluwalayomi Fadero as the woman who lost her life in a violent crash involving a suspect fleeing police in a stolen vehicle.
According to Metro Nashville Police, the incident unfolded Friday morning when 52-year-old parolee Ray Eugene Padgett allegedly stole a Ford F-250. Police say he used the truck to strike its owner and collide with a police vehicle before speeding into oncoming traffic along Murfreesboro Pike.
During the pursuit, Padgett’s truck slammed into Fadero’s Hyundai Elantra as she attempted to turn onto Hickory Woods Drive. Investigators reported that her vehicle was hit with severe force on the driver’s side, leading to her death at the scene.
Padgett sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. After receiving treatment, he was released Saturday and taken into custody.
He now faces multiple charges, including criminally negligent homicide, reckless vehicular homicide, attempted criminal homicide, felony reckless endangerment, and driving on a revoked license. Police stated that the attempted homicide charge relates to him ramming an unmarked police vehicle occupied by a detective earlier during the incident.
Officials also noted that Padgett has an extensive criminal record across several counties in Tennessee. He is currently being held at the Downtown Detention Center with bond set at $805,000.
