Authorities in Louisville have identified a man who was killed in a shooting that also left a police officer injured Sunday night. The victim, 34-year-old Charmont Thompson, was found with multiple gunshot wounds and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Louisville Metro Police reported that officers were dispatched around 9:15 p.m. to the 2900 block of Annie Street following reports of gunfire. While officers were on-site investigating, a vehicle believed to be connected to the incident struck one of the responding officers while fleeing the area.

Not long after the hit-and-run, officers located Thompson, who had sustained several gunshot injuries. Emergency medical personnel declared him deceased at the scene.

The injured officer was reported to be conscious and alert and was transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.

At this time, police have not released any details regarding a suspect. Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the case by contacting the department’s anonymous tip line or submitting details through the online crime reporting system.
