Fatal Cinebar, Washington shooting death of Kenny R. Risley – Obituary

Officials have confirmed the identity of a man who was killed in a deputy-involved shooting earlier this month in Lewis County. The deceased, 53-year-old Kenny R. Risley, died after an encounter with law enforcement in the Cinebar area.

The incident occurred shortly before noon on March 16 along State Route 508, east of Onalaska. Deputies from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a man reportedly in distress and located him inside a vehicle.

According to authorities, Risley later exited the vehicle and moved toward deputies while carrying a firearm. Officers instructed him to stop, but he did not follow their commands. In response, deputies initially deployed less-lethal beanbag rounds. When the situation escalated, two deputies discharged their rifles, striking him.

Risley was transported from the scene by air for medical treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. No officers were harmed during the confrontation.

The deputies involved in the shooting have been identified as Tyson Brown, a 14-year veteran assigned to patrol, and Jared Kasinger, a 12-year veteran who serves as a K-9 handler.

The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations is continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities are asking anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
