Fatal Bexar County, Texas car crash death of Daymien Pablo Arriaga and Andrew Avery Salazar – Obituary

Authorities in Bexar County have identified 16-year-olds Daymien Pablo Arriaga and Andrew Avery Salazar as the two teens who lost their lives following a crash while fleeing from deputies.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner determined that both victims died from multiple blunt force injuries, ruling the deaths accidental.

According to Sheriff Javier Salazar, the incident began early Sunday morning when deputies responded to reports of suspected car break-ins in a neighborhood on the far West Side. A witness contacted authorities after observing two individuals driving through the Preserve at Culebra area in an older Toyota with dark-tinted windows, allegedly checking for unlocked vehicles and homes.

Investigators later reviewed video footage that appeared to show the suspects pulling into driveways, trying door handles, and entering vehicles.

When a deputy arrived near the intersection of Blacktail Crest and Bonita Loop, the vehicle sped away. The deputy activated emergency lights in an attempt to stop the car but quickly lost sight of it.

A second deputy later observed the vehicle traveling at a high speed near Culebra Road. By the time law enforcement caught up, the car had already crashed.

Both Arriaga and Salazar suffered severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities described the situation as a tragic loss of life, noting that the crash followed a series of risky actions. Investigators are still working to determine whether the vehicle involved had been stolen.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has launched internal reviews into the incident. The deputy involved in the attempted stop has been placed on administrative leave and reassigned to administrative duties while the investigation continues.
