Fatal Matawan pedestrian death of Osvaldo Dantas – Obituary

Osvaldo Dantas, 62, of Matawan, New Jersey, died after being struck by a taxi that veered off the road and collided with a telephone pole last week. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office reported that the incident occurred around 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, near Railroad Plaza and Johnson Street.

Authorities said the taxi, a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country, was traveling west on Railroad Plaza when it left the roadway, striking Dantas before hitting the pole. He was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries at 3:53 p.m. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
