Fatal Youngstown, Ohio shooting death of Shane Linderman – Obituary
The Mahoning County Coroner’s office has identified Shane Linderman, 50, as the man fatally shot by officers during an incident at the Dollar General on Belmont Avenue in Youngstown, Ohio.
Linderman was declared dead at the scene. An autopsy has been performed by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the exact cause of death.
Police were called to the scene shortly after 5 p.m. on Tuesday following reports that Linderman had stabbed himself and a woman inside the store. When officers arrived, they found Linderman with a stab wound and the woman suffering from severe injuries, described as unresponsive.
According to Police Chief Carl Davis, during the officers’ response to the situation, one officer fired their weapon, killing Linderman.
The woman was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition as of Wednesday.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is leading an independent investigation into the incident, while the Youngstown Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division will conduct its own review.
